Why don't the bishops get it?
I know I haven't posted on the situation with the bishops at their conference that they have just had. It is sad to see really. Most of them think that the changes that were made after Vatican II were so good that we shouldn't change them or else the people would be upset (Trautman's response to the proposed changes in some of the prayers at the Mass that the current translations have been endearing to many of the people and therefore they shouldn't be changed to reflect the actual Latin text). This is of course absurd considering that he probably didn't have any problem with changing the Mass completely back in 1970. Lets face it, the translations are terrible and we need to have accurate ones but with the hemming and hawing that some of these bishops are doing I don't know if we will ever get good translations of the Mass. By doing so it will help in some ways to recover the sense of the sacred in the Liturgy. There are of course other things that can be done to foster greater reverence and sacredness in the Mass. Anyway, this always happens at the US Bishops conferences--nothing gets done.
Meanwhile, I am nearly done with this semester. Hopefully I can maintain the B that I have in statistics so that I can graduate. I will be getting my Associates degree if all goes well. Then I can concentrate entirely on my Bachelors degree. I'm still praying the Traditional Divine Office everyday (although I haven't been praying the Rosary like I should) and hopefully, if Father sends me the letter that I need, I can get the packet together to send to the Grand Master of the Militia Templi in Siena, Italy. However, its been over two weeks since I have written my parish pastor about my desire and the request that he write a short recommendation. I haven't recieved anything yet in the Mail. I'm sure that is where he would send it but I admit I didn't specify it in the letter. That is the only thing holding it up. Meanwhile, I am reading several books: The New Knighthood, Soul of the Apostolate, the Confessions of St. Augustine, and St. Bernard of Clairvoux. All of them are interesting and I read them according to my mood at the time. Please continue to pray for me and pray for my parish pastor that he will send me the letter. Also, pray for our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI. It seems that he has a sore throat right now so please pray for him.

Hi, Rachel.
Isn't it funny that Bp. Trautman said people had become attached to a mistranslation therefore it was worth keeping; however, when the Pope recommends widespread Tridentine indults for "people with a special attachment to it", he's just catering to old, veiled, breast-beating women?
Some of the things that come out of the Bishops' mouths make me scratch my head.
Incidentally, I read about your brother being in RCIA (Good for him; my husband is in RCIA as well.) and I was aghast at what the DRE told him about the traditionalist movement.
Let me guess. You go to Immaculate Conception? My brother-in-law converted two years ago. Same DRE.
Anyhow, just keep giving your brother good reading material by Scott Hahn, C.S. Lewis, et al., and he'll turn out to be a great Catholic. ;)
The Bishops and the Pope, who I love and pledge allegiance to, but is a modernist (can we forget the pictures of him in civilian clothes with Karl Rahner at Vatican II) was the chief Architect of Lumen Gentium (we are not the One true church, but only "subsist" within )
Until God bestows another St Pope Pius X on us we are doomed with this group of radical liberals who went to seminaries that threw away St Thomas in favor of liberal catholic and even Protestant theologians. We were taught to even doubt transubstantiation. It is sick and not Catholic.
Reading the OT, God challenged his people many times, and we as the One true church, are being challenged now with some less than honorable men as Pope and Bishop, but we must not cut and run, but let them know we are here, traditional, and will except nothing less than true Catholic teachings
And good luck on your tests! You will do great as I can see how well you blog
